Rayburns....
We used to have a Rayburn the same. It was originally installed in our old house in 1946

If any of the brickwork is crumbling in the firebox you will lose a great deal of heat and the temperature will be more difficult to control hence using more fuel.

I put cut some fresh firebricks and firebox cement to make good and the difference was well worth the effort.

Once hot and going, it's then getting the right fuel.... we used a mixture of wood, anthacite and coke at one time. Eventually we gave in and flogged it to a scap merchant.

The biggest problem is often to get a chimney to allow the fire to draw well with such a short stack.

Sometimes they are put in without a bend in the stack and often an uninsulated stack. If the stack

is cold then the fire will not draw and it will smoke into the cabin.

Preheating the chimney with a blowlamp can do the trick just to get the cold air 'plug' out of the chimney.

Ahhh, memories of days gone by.

Are there such things as inflatable rollers? Something like a giant fender. I think RN have used such.

A row of these squeezed under the hull and then inflated might allow her to be moved with a tractor or like.

(I'm trying to post something useful to lighten the boredom).

Damn! Woke up this morning to find that I have missed it!
BTW does anyone really know what's happening about the launch?

The army has been called but they are a bit busy so still waiting. However on the bright side the sponsored Lewmar anchor has held perfectly, and the Garmin sat nav will proved nothing has moved at all. As for the fenders, the paintwork still remains un scuffed. Nothing else to report.

And how many of those casually putting the 'comedic' boot in would like to be ( or could tolerate) being on the receiving end , eh? Or even identify themselves, their boat, their hailing port..?

Anyone.. I would hate it.

Bet we've driven the OP off for a long time but what sport, what?

( yeah yeah Blueboatmans a sanctimonious prick. And so it goes on, yeah yeah yada yada, but sadly still no splash for the OP.)

I think your comments are wrong and misdirected too. Until Preston Marina posted their own considered response, the majority of forumites were posting potentially helpful responses in support of Ellie. After Preston Marina responded, Ellie went to ground. It was quite a while after this before there was a general swing toward more negative or jokey posts. In view of the genuine interest Ellie generated in this thread, I do feel she should have brought us up to date or even given notice she was bowing out of the thread. What appears to have happened is she's taken the hump and gone AWOL without any expianation simply because Preston Marina had the temerity to put their side of the story! Now I'm possibly quite wrong but I've no way of knowing This unless the OP comes back to tell us. I actually think it's quite rude of Ellie to leave the thread as she appears to have done.

I still hope she gets her boat afloat and wish her well, but to expect others to provide freebies and cheap launches and to apparently go off in a huff when it doesn't work out isn't us being negative, it's Ellie expecting to receive more help than she's possibly entitled to. Someone else asked in a recent post, how much sympathy and sponsorship would an ugly old male sailor generate if they made a similar post?

There was an old fishing boat that appeared in Pwllheli a few years ago, peeps from Brum. What a larf! it had a B and Q shed on top, it had a made the journey from oop north with another woden pirate ship as we called them. One towed because the other hadnt got propulsion. Apparently one cast the other adrift when it got hairy, the lifeboat was called etc etc. They stayed there for a few years and finally they were abandoned. They used to get bladdered and party, complete with chinese genny and load music, but they didnt have any stamina, asleep by 9pm ish. Different women would show up!
The funniest i saw was them when they aquired a dinghy and a seagull, imagine hot Sat afternoon, much cerveja, and pull, pull, rewind pull with some blue polyprop string. Drifting down the harbour, much merriment then the fecking thing started on full chat. Imagine two drunks, flat on their backs in a runaway dinghy with its bow in the air and a full chat seagull belching blue smoke! It didnt last long!
Now imagine those two trying to get some freebies like Jellie! I think not!

Re Wandering Star
Whilst I may agree in private with some of the sentiments expressed ( and I write as one who had a breakdown trying to keep a life a career a education programme and an old wooden together, many years ago), and there were one or two posters on here who were around to see that, many years ago).

When is enuff enuff?

I think we can assume that the OP would post if she could ( look at Dylan , its in the blood, you write therefore you exist).

BUT, the unrelenting snidyness that has crept in, by golly , it all adds up doesn't it?

Perhaps my new Avatar should be: "Making better mistakes tomorrow".

What's yours?( smiley)

I looked back through Ellie's posts. You have to go back to May 2013 to find a post that doesn't refer to her own situation. Most forum members will jump into any thread that interests them.

Just saying.

Not quite. Think she posted some advice re Newhaven recently.

But, sure. I have no wish to play 'defender of the faith' but am uncomfortable with drifting into laughing ' at' others predicament or miss-step rather than laughing along 'with' them..

I am not disputing that there may be the occasional general posting, but most forumites post when they have no special reason to ask for advice.

I think what people are saying is that if someone mainly comes on for help and advice, and then disappears from view when those who were supporting them are wanting to know how progress is going, it's a bit of a slap in the face.

If there is a Cease and Desist letter around it can only relate to bad-mouthing the party that produced it. They cannot tell anyone where and when they post.
Ellie could certainly come on and update us without delving into her negotiations or passing derogatory opinions.

Doesnt really matter why Ellie doesn't post here anymore but one thing is for sure that the boat won't get launched until it is sold to someone who has the cash to throw at the white elephant . It appears Ellie's has not .

Clyst , show the proof of the above statement, or wrap up, ur continuinng droning on along with others, must be very demorilising iin wghat must be a very frustrating situation. Show the. evidence., noone knows what,s happening so. lay off the negative assumptions.
