I once did the same thing with what I thought was a solid oak section in a table. I reveneered it but it may not be so easy for the washboard. A furniture restorer may be able to help.

If the worn through bit is in the middle then get a bit of thin teak faced ply, trim it so it leaves a border around the main board for the holding frame then Glue that on with lots of bricks etc compressing it on a flat surface. Then apply 20 coats of cuprinol wood preserver clear to each face of the stripped, now composite, board .

You end up with that lovely weathered look but it will last for years without any attention at all.

Replace. The remaining wood is always too damp, the veneer will warp, and the glue will never stick well; you probably would have to dry the basic board for months.
Other solution is painting roses & castles on it...

You should change them every year - under one year no reason for sacking. - mindyou you cannot mention age or sex when recruiting new girlfriend from October 1st.
