so when ever people find out that i have a bot i get two questions how often do you use it and how much is the fuel?

so how much do i use it is easy just tell them about the trips I have been to.

but the fuel consumption no idea... I have had the boat for over two years
so I set down and calculated :

filled up last in holland white diesel full price 587 litres cost of 860 Euro

tanks full are 1136 litres

now i have more then half but call it half

I allow 1 liter an hour for generator so 68 hours 68 liters

so engine hours are 83

1136/2 =568
568-68=500
500/83=6

so on average my engine consume 6 liters

so i can answer most questions now lol

I keep a record of fuel added during the season. Start off with a full tank and note engine hours, all fuel added during the season is recorded. When the boat is lifted top off the tank and divide fuel used by the number of hours run. Currently running at around 15l/h but will be more accurate at the end of the year.

I keep records but if anyone asks me those questions I reply that I didn't know.

It helps when passage planning

There are plenty of things to distract you out there, worrying if you have enough fuel if it all turns pooey should not be one of them.
Our fuel burn with around 150 hours PA was 3-4 gallons an hour last year.
Gallons per mile is fine for the "Med" boys with no tides but in the real world over here you need to know how long before the engines stop.

I keep a folder and record the dates place of fuel and the amount of fuel taken on board all the time it takes 2 minutes after 6 months you start to build a picture of what's going on and this can help spot any potential problems with servicing and can help trace back any dirty fuel.
