Last year i bought a secondhand fridge while in Italy is an "Indel B" its like a cool box not much bigger than a medium one perhaps 2 foot longX18 inches deep & 12/14 inches accross.

Its a compressor fridge, the noise of the compressor pumping without ever stopping drives me mad!It did get down to about 8 degrees on a passage this month,if it hadent said 8 degrees i would have thrown it overboard

Is it normal that small compressor types pump for so long??It draws 4 amps!

Sounds like you have lost some of the gas. If it has connections for gas to be injected I would ask a refrigerant engineer to check it out. If it needs the remaining refrigerant taking out and a fresh charge injecting you will need to know how much gas (and type) and oil it requires. Also make sure they vacuum it down 3 times putting either nitrogen or even some refrigerant in to the system in between to remove all the contaminants.

That sounds expensive?I dont know to many fridge specialists.I DO know where to get old gas but not much about the doings?

What dose the "vacuum" do?You mean take out the old??Then try twice more??

trou
vacuuming is connecting a pump to the system and pumping a vacuum on it so that any moisture in it is vapourised and old gas is taken out.
connections are sometimes on the system, usually 1/4" bsp or possibly a quick connect, if you cant see connections anywhere you can buy saddle clamps to clamp on a pipe, puncture it and allow a valve to alow you to put gas in and out. vacuum pumps are expensive but you can use an old compressor out of a fridge, i brazed connections on to one and it works a treat, you can buy connections and pipes off ebay also small bottlesof gas.

Be carful where you do this, because refrigerants are extream greenhose gasses most countries have very strick regulations and corisponding penalties. I some places you need to be a licenced opperator. If you cant find a fridge engeneer a garage the services car airconditioning units might be able to help or advise.

Ill have to find out what gas is in there to start with.I did ask a garage they said they couldent give me a price, but a car refilled would cost about 160 euros plus or minus.

It has to cost on that basis about 100 euros????Given they probably wont doit for less!!Price per job.

I cant understand why a new firdge costs about 700 euros???Im just guessing as i seem to remember seeing a catalog a few months ago "compass"??with friges advertised, even 600 euros is to much to pay for such a small cooler!
