If anyone's got any tips on where to go from alcudia in majorca that would be great. Oh and the fine vessel is a quicksilver 555 with 115hp on the back, i had a quicksilver dingy that was good so i'm sure this will be fine :D

Hi if your based in alcudiamar then theres some lovely local spots out past the lighthouse to the headland then around to left there is col baix lovely bay in all but strong easterlies and then just keep following the coast into pollenca bay for more of the same .

Just dont be tempted to go between the lighthouse and the land lol ...if you have access to the hard in alcudiamar theres an azimut 98 leanardo that went to close to the lighthouse the owner just about got it back into the marina before it sank on the fuel berth

Hi Chas

Well done - go for the weather.

I think you've definately picked the right place.
As for where to go - there's loads of places
Start with this link - mostly around Pollensa

But this link shows the potential to the south.

I'd definately pop up to Pollensa and praps anchor in Formentor

Dont forget to take some pics and show us all - or maybe in the pub sometime.

I'd second that Chas. There are loads of anchorages around there but one particularly nice one is off Formentor. Come out of Alcudia, turn left, then cross over to far side of the big bay of Pollensa and anchor off Formentor beach. I was there last summer and hey have now fitted mooring buoys (I was last there 10 yrs ago when it was free-for-all anchoring) so I don't know if you're allowed to anchor. Maybe ask at the Alcudia marina office which is staffed by a very nice/helpful team. Also in Alcudia marina, there was a nice chillout bar built on decking at the waters edge, at the end furthest from the town, just in front of you before you would turn left to the chandler and port office. It overlooked the anchored boats in the sunset in the evenings. Oh, and the chandlery in Alcudia marina was well stocked and worth a llook around

I second Pollenca and you can just about get anything you need in town as well.

It's amazing I just had a look at Hurricane's link as he is near enough on the same mooring ball as we were on in March this year when we got hit by 67 knot winds!! There were only two boats out there then, ours as we had stopped en-route to Croatia and the same mono that was in your photo which had an Icelandic family on-board. The storm lasted for 30 hours, we had hail stones at nearly 75 mph and then when the wind did stop, it snowed the first time in 30 years in this area!

This time of year though it will be fine, have fun.

Hi from alcudiamar marina

Just sat on the back deck, under shade, typing this on the foc wifi. Steady 90 deg in saloon at 10.30 am local and the sea is just nicely warming now after a few weeks of very warm weather.
We are around in Alcudiamar for the next 3 weeks so sent you a PM with mobile no. if you want a forum mini-meet up !
Lots of tips to steer you around port and very happy to give you some up to date pointers for the area for some really lovely places to visit. Assume you have / or are getting the pilot book.
Formentor Hotel Bay, in Pollenca Bay is as mentioned now buoys only and was e14 overnight on reds for a 10m last Friday when we stopped over. Quite a few ****heads on jets and ribs who slalom the buoys daytime though but come evening peace returns.

Understand, third hand that the Az98 was under command of owner, skipper with him, who against advice ran too close to shore and caught rocks off headland and then seen limping into Alcudia Bay going down so grounded it at Chicken Island to avoid sinking. Towed into port with extra aux pumps going and then diver down to plug up ripped P brackets and rudder impact holes. Had 4 huge cranes to lift it out as too much beam for travel lift. Repairs underway at moment.

Regards Richard

Well, thanks for that Rich. Not that I'm missing it of course :-(

Chris, Can only agree with what others have said but if you want to be a bit more adventurous and the weather is OK head around Cape Formentor. Spectacular cliffs and places to anchor. Try Cala San Vincente. Great anchorage in clear waters. Shame about the hotel but still a lovely spot.

Yes lots of rumours around about the owner wanting the skipper to accept responsibilty (allegedly) they had to summon the local fire service before they lifted it to pump it out, and the rsj's they used to hold the strops apart where to short and as they lifted it the strops were crushing the sides if you stand and look down the sides you can see the indentations in the hull.
If they are to repair it i think it will be there a long time as the engine room was completely flooded and it will take some serious structural work to remove both the engines
