It is just a prototype at the moment to see if the motor rotates the prop fast enough for some decent forward motion.

Sadly the motor runs faster with the correct polarity. faster backwards.

I need to find a cheap 24v controller.
 
Would you need to vary the speed? On or off is simple enough. One use I've found for the electric o/b is helping row against a tide or wind. Set it up and it makes much lighter work of the job.
 
I quite like the two speeds 12v and 24v It would be nice to just switch between the two rather than juggle with crocodile clips and sparks
