As a young man he fought through the world war came home and stated a business and a family of four .It was not till 1969 and he was fifty that there was any change. His business failed and he started work as a manager in a local company. It was at this time his father and mother died and he inherited. This was his time, kids away at college, house paid for…….he bought a Halcyon 27 ,.Brand new for 2,700 quid. But obviously this did not satisfy him .In 1971 he bought a hull and deck with engine installed of a Freeward 30 and spent the newt two years fitting it out alongside the house in his spare time and weekends. He kept the boat and sailed around the channel till 1988,when he sold it to a German who took it away under sail .I imagine this to some extent was the history of many men ,freedom at last todowhat they wanted to do!

I can imagine him perfectly happy buying an old Halcyon 27 now and titivating it or even major work like a new engine or windows etc.Isthe doing up of old 1970s yachts the equivalent to my father buying a bare hull and deck….seems a not too expensive entrance into yacht ownership…..
