My condolences to everyone at SYH…

We have had some bouncy nights with wind over tide there as unlike the Orwell it is exposed to Westerly

I have anchored in the Stour for twenty plus years and this scenario usually only happens with a force 4 or above. Check the weather, wind direction and then make your choice of where to spend the night at anchor or sell the boat and buy a caravan.

Spent the last few days in Newtown Creek. Mostly peace and quiet with two exceptions. The people on those vessels were much younger than us but clearly showed no consideration for their neighbours with the shouting, screaming, loud music & loud indiscreet conversation (I learned some new expletives and they certainly won the competition for how many times they could get "like" and "f***" into a sentence). I know I shouldn't judge but by coincidence both vessels were day boat types driven by engines rather than sails and one was sporting an ensign from a services yacht club. Shame on you fellow citizens :cautious:

The local fiesta was still banging out noise at 02 00 so I walked down the lane and in my very best Anglo Saxon told them to reduce the Effing noise. As the neighbours are asked to contribute to the payment of these music services I thought I was within my rights.People being unsociable need to be reminded there are other people trying to sleep

I would never advise anyone to walk up to a bunch of young guys who are playing loud music and drinking and tell them to turn it down..........unless of course you have a death wish.

Go anchor in the Stour, a much quieter, peaceful river with no marinas or much traffic. Sometimes you get the whole river to yourself.

It's not necessarily safe there, either!

A few years back we had a disturbed night there due to a big party (or was small festival?) on the north shore, just upstream of the Hospital School, and adjacent to where we'd anchored.

It was tedious at the time, but somehow we survived it.

I am honoured (though feeling the odd man out) to be among all you forumites who apparently never in their youth, or at any other time, played loud music, attended parties or festivals, engaged in loud/drunken conversation/behaviour, had noisy exhausts on your cars/bikes, etcetera! ;) 😄
You have met one ,never knowingly upset people with loud music😂

Or people with nothing better to do than sleep need to be reminded that some people prefer to be enjoying themselves.

Yes we all know…you partied all night…and caught the last chariot home

I can't remember the last time I partied all night, but I did get home at 2.30 this morning after playing amplified music (3 guitars, bass, keyboard, bongos and 3 singers with microphones!), in someone's terraced house living room, as we do most Saturday nights. :devilish:

I can say in our defence that the immediate neighbour one side says she positively likes it. The immediate neighbour the other side is separated by a narrow gap in the terrace and doesn't seem bothered by it. I am sure that it can be heard by other neighbours further afield, but we're not horrendously loud and do shut up fairly diligently at midnight.

…and everyone else on the Orwell who was hoping for a quiet evening and instead has to listen to thumping music because some selfish tw***s have set up a sound system on the beach. I could hear it four miles up the river. I just don’t understand this mentality.
We were at SYH over the last 4 days and involved in the Classic Regatta. The evening on the Lightship started with a woman singing, fairly gently, then progressed to fairly drunken and totally raucous karaoke. This was tolerable up to a point and I soon feel asleep. However up for a 5am pee the 'thump thump' was still going but turned out to be a 'Rave on the Marshes'. It really was an imposition on the peace and tranquillity of a great evening. These raves are illegal because of this but obviously nothing was done about this one.

The problem is volume, unnecessary amplification. I believe it to be much worse now than it was in the seventies and eighties. I was fortunate, back in those days, to see Floyd live at Earls Court, Wembley Stadium, Wembley Arena and Knebworth. Never was it too loud. I saw Aussie Floyd in Southampton, it was so loud it made me feel sick and I departed. Very recently I went to a local town hall venue to see a Fleetwood Mac Tribute band. It was so loud the music was massively distorted, unlistenable, again I departed after twenty minutes. Why so loud? Turn it down! What’s wrong with the sound engineers?

Last week we paid a fortune to see the opera in Verona.....and it wasn’t loud enough
