my boat project journal

so after taking more stuff apart there is no drain bung as in the pics and no oil in that area , it seems it should just have some grease in there for the shaft and nothing else . thanks

Mmmm pretty sure that hole isn’t meant to be there! Any grease will wash out in minutes once underway. Have you drained the oil?

my gut feeling is if that’s corrosion…it’s knackered

google ……sei 106. Might be a cheaper option to replace but depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go

so after a lot of looking round I decided on sept the 4th to buy a 23ft sun seeker
owner had it for 4 years and basically spray painted everything in sigh black , including all the amazing wood work GRRRRR

so I have decided to try to bring all the wood back as I think its teak , then modernise and refit all the interior

complete boat re wire

engine and out drive full service and inspection
View attachment 122076
new paint on the top and graphics

all new gauges , flooring and seating
Looks like a 23ft Day Cab. I owned one in the Canary Islands for a few years. The 150hp turbo Penta was good, the design brilliant, BUT the Volvo leg drive was a nightmare. So I finished up selling it after only 6 months just because of the leg drive was too badly worn.

mine has the 3.7 Mercruiser init in it . jut hoping this all good , awaiting the manifold to come back , also a new water pump housing and impeller from the states

so the manifold is due back here Monday

I have re fitted the outdrive this morning before the rain , installed new water pump and housing assy . the old one looked tired out ,

so I still have to remove all the old fuel from the tank as no idea how long its been there or if its got water in it .
install new plugs , cap and arm , also new points

im assuming some where there should be a tell tale so I know that water is circulating correctly ? any ideas please

once I know the engine and drive is ok , I can start on the interior

the trailer has had new axles and brakes aong with bearings and a new over run hitch and tyres installed this week

so all in all its going well

the plan is to get all the outside Jobe buttoned away before the bd weather , then that leaves me all winter to replace all wiring and re build the interior

thanks for reading
ill post a few pics later that I need a ID on

There was a load of filler in a corrosion hole. It’s at the back of the outdrive base.
I can’t work out if anything passes through this area. I don’t think it does. It was full of greasy mud. Am I to assume no water passes this area. Just fo I can work out how best to repair it. Thanks. It’s a alpha 1 gen 1.

Hi do you have another photo of the out drive with that hole in from another angle??? Or from a bit further back ???Ive had couple of boats with alpha one gen 1 legs on them and I genuinely don’t remember seeing a hole like that ???? I hope it’s not corrosion???I had one and it had been bodged up with filler to hide the corrosion prior to me buying it after 1 season in the water I stuck screwdriver in the gear case and all the oil fell out ?. A new drive is very expensive,
