Hi there,

I'm Charles from Hong Kong.

I recently purchased a 2011 Azimut 47 FLY. It's a family boat and I love to take it out with kids and enjoy the sun, beach etc. Hong Kong boating season starts from June till around November cos weather here is really hot. As you may know, we're a tiny island and surrounded by water so it makes sense to have a boat to have a getaway from the crowded city. Well.... in summer, even the beaches are crowded.

So back to the Azimut. I bought it used so it isn't perfect and there're my ideas I have and would like to share with you guys the process (which may take very long time) of my DIY projects. One of my main targets is to create an outdoor movie area at the bow area. I plan to install the carbon fibre pole for both awning and the projector screen. (Still thinking up in my head).

Here're things that needs to be done and this list may grow:
- Add bow deck awning poles
- Custom bow deck cushion for lean back
- Bow speaker / light mount (thinking of using JBL Pulse 4 or UMA lantern lamp) - I want stereo speaker, waterproof and can have some ambient lighting
- Change the existing halogen lights to LED (I will have to sacrifice the dimming function)
- Add more lights in Galley area
- Add lights to flybridge
- Add lights to bimini
- Change stereo system
- Upgrade the Raymarine display, radar, GPS, transducer etc. '

The RED AZ47 is my neighbour's boat which I use for photoshop cos I had this idea before I got mine. So the red one is NOT mine.

Today I went and bought some 24V LED lights and try to install it myself.

I found a way to get power source from the flybridge cooler and run it under the table and mount it with 3M VHB double sided tape. I must say I'm very happy with the result. Will refine the wiring and maybe change the switch to waterproof one. Meanwhile, I'm happy with it. Next, bimini lights!

Here're my requirement for bimini lights:

1. I don't want to run 24V inside the tube and certainly don't want to drill on the deck cos I'm worry water leak.
2. I want ambient lighting (warm light)
3. I want to position it in the middle but I need to figure out a way to mount it without cutting the bimini zip cover.
4. The LED needs to be removable, rechargeable and can control with a remote from 1 button.

Here's I found something that I can use as testing sample. Checked all my boxes, remote can control up to 8 lights, temp control, rechargeable. The only problem now is how to mount it properly.

Thinking of magnet and customize a mount to fit on the 32mm diameter bimini pole and not cutting the fabric.

Welcome Charles. You are a very brave man suggesting your advanced entertainment project. I bet you get lots of comments about "I go boating to get away from noise" but I can understand from your background explanation how important it is to gain your own private space away from the city.

If you are installing all these extra electronics, have you checked out the capacity of your battery system and charging source to sustain the power drain ?

Hi Charles. Excellent project ! I can’t believe no one else thought of putting a movie screen up front!
Just one minor point, the Bimini poles will be stainless steel, so they are not very magnetic.

Great choice of boats. Love Azimuts. Interesting challenge with the cinema on the foredeck. A couple of questions. I’m assuming you will use this at night? And what sort of screen are you planning? I’m assuming a projector and screen rather than monitor? A large monitor will be heavy to carry around the side decks, and you would not want to leave it on the foredeck, as sea water and clever electrics do not mix well. I cannot imagine you would have a screen that you could properly use in bright daylight?
