2016 has been a bit rubbish for me is probably an understatement when it comes to boating having used Bizzy Bee all of 3 times in 2016. A house extension, holidays, charity events and all manner of other excuses kept us off the boat with the result being for the first time in my boating life, I had a neglected boat to deal with.

This thread will hopefully encourage others not to do the same, I caught various things in the nick of time.

Bizzy Bee is now back as she should be with a promise to myself never to let my boat(s) get in to the same condition and I will be using her far more in the 2017 season

Here's the first set of sorry pictures when she was first lifted, my jaw dropped, other people let their boats get into this state, not me, or so I thought :(

At least the lift out guy wasn't going hungry

The clean up beings, the first of 5 weekends work

work on the sterndrives start, draining the lube - had to do them single handed as my lad wasn't there to help as in previous years.. he's more interested in girls for some reason :)

This video shows how close I was to have a serious sterndrive issue.. I reckon a run out would likely have resulted in a UJ bellow coming off

Had to devise a way of dropping and fitting the drives using a hydraulic jack to take the weight and help reposition them on refitting and also made up this DIY tool to remove the pins

[/QUOTE]

Feeling a little better after getting the drives back on and antifouled with brush on paint.. leaves a rough finish but its erodible so will smooth in time of its own accord after a few runs out

Salutary lesson Gary. You need to get out more...........on the Solent!

Best wishes to you and yours, and looking forward to catching up in the New Year.

Time to start of polishing up a faded gelcoat, I'd giving it a wash each time I'd been down but the protection had gone with no waxing, the grime had taken hold so needed cutting back

Initial go at removing some of the faded gelcoat, faded to the left, a quick go over with the rotary polisher and fast cut paste on the right

This video shows the differences between first cut and original state of the gelcoat... talking to the gelcoat guy who did some work, another season and I may have had more serious issues, something to do with the dirt getting so ingrained that it allows moisture to get under the gelcoat.. not too sure about that myself but glad it got sorted

Another video grinding back some of the gelcoat that had crazed where I'd not kept an eye on the mooring ropes and fender pressures resulting in the sides of the boat getting a bashing against the pontoon in strong winds

The results of the gelcoat guy's grinding !!!! eeek

Feeling much better now, nothing like a shiny boat to lift the spirits after a few weekends work in the cold

All that was left to do was the antifoul and service the seacocks

All sorted and ready to go back in the water.

Looking good there.
34kts is 'top form" for an S28 with Kad32's.
I have a tender to fit to the SC35 plus a bunch of minor fixes - one of my props has "shifted" on its hub!
Hoping to be back on the water in March :)

Solent meet up in April then David? Rafiki out of the water in March, annual anti foul, anodes and polish up.

I have been in the same position due to Ill health, priority being given to getting the business in a state that eldest son can take over, just in case (has been running it very well for the last two months). Boat is now out & being totally gone through, will possibly go up for sale in new year.
I have a major opp planned at the London clinic in Jan, odds are not great, but hoping for the best, certainly got the best team there is, fingers crossed.
Got an electric scooter for xmas so can go out with dogs tomorrow, little victories.

Sorry to hear that you're not well, best wishes for a speedy recovery. I know you've put a lot of effort into building up your business so it would be a real shame for you not to fully enjoy the rewards.

Thanks Pete, its something I have known since 2003 & major problems could happen, have needed another opp for a long time but the risk was unacceptable unless something went wrong & left me with no option, which is where we are now. So it may end in disaster, but it may, if my luck holds, be a new start.
Had always intended to retire at 55 anyway, but thought we would sell when Sam went to Cambs to study maths, until he decided he wanted to take over, & we altered plans. The good news is at that point I decided to expand like crazy to lay the foundation stones for him to develop another DHL. Plans have all worked so he should be well set.

Edit: Got a phone call from surgeon yesterday confirming 1st week in Jan.
