MX Mariner/OpenCPN on Android- where do you get charts from?

The process of buying and downloading the charts is very little difference to the way Navionics works. The UK is split into 4 areas at about £3.50 each for the raster admiralty charts, that's why they are big files. There are advantages and disadvantages to both types of charts. Admiralty charts are always a work of art, with perfect clarity, place names, light details etc. all laid out nicely, never cluttered, but the information is static, non-interactive. There is a new feature in mx mariner now with the addition of active captain info that gives marina info which helps somewhat.

I succeeded in converting Antares charts using MXCart. The first effort failed but that wasn't obvious. The second attempt took several hours but it did keep showing encouraging signs every few minutes. The converted files are near 1Gb. If you are interested, I could attempt to make them available.

I'd be very interested to know how you did it ... and in particular what version of Windows you were using. My failures were with XP, W7 (real), W7 (virtual) and Wine (Ubuntu).

I followed the instructions. First time it seemed to crash in a passive sort of way (no sign of much happening but no positive indication that it had failed.) Second time it worked, showing progress on the screen from time to time. Windows 7 home premium (is that real?). I'm afraid I can't offer more help as there wasn't anything else to do.

A minor drawback in use is that you have to change chart region to/from Antares as you move into/out of the area of interest.

If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to try to answer.

Thanks. I'll give it another go when this year's Antares charts come out. I did suggest to Bob that he get a conversion done and distribute them that way too, but he said, reasonably that there aren't enough days in the year to convert them to every format used (I paraphrase). Perhaps if one person successfully converts them, some sort of download for those who have bought the normal versions would be set up.
