Reading the entry in Wiki, it's absolutely outrageous for Transport Canada to just set the thing adrift into the Atlantic, ' someone elses' problem ' !!!

Well they might take it more seriously if they were on board !
It seems a bit steep to have a ship in tow then cast it adrift as soon as it's clear of ones' oil & gas rigs, running into that at night would significantly disimprove a ship let alone a yacht.

It is, but for some reason the tug that they had contracted to tow it away for scrap did not take over the tow, though whether or not they tried is not clear.

The tug Charlene Hunt was underway to the Dominican Republic to scrap the ship but shortly into the tow the line broke. They tried to reattach a line to the ship but failed due to the conditions at the time.

According to the article I read she is expected in Ireland by next spring. She is also infested by rats, that might finding a port a bit more difficult as well.

LOL, what it means is that the ship is only insured while under tow. Also, since he already has 250K invested in the ship it is not worth his while to charter another rescue vessel. So it might sink or be sunk by the navy for being a navigational hazard. I'm not a translator but the Google effort was a bit rough.

I read elsewhere on the web that her EPIRB has gone off, its salt water activated and that she might have sunk.
