My zip on my 2 year old Musto all singing and dancing #1 (whatever that means) jacket broke yesterday, that follows the pull tab falling off 2 months ago, this has really pi**ed me off as it was an expensive present. 2 years ago my wifes Musto fleece pilled so badly she sent it back.
I have had a number of cheap fleeces and the like over the year, and I have never had a problem with any one of them. the expensive stuff seems rubbish.

It may be better stuff but my Decathlon jacket is 100% no nonsense waterproof and costs £25. The Musto jacket I saw at LIBS has better cuffs and is a bit lighter and breathable and costs £495. That means it surely has to be twenty times better than the Decathlon one? Not likely! And it probably cost £5.50 more to manufacture at a factory next door to the Musto one.

OMG I should like an old fart.

Speak with Musto.

I once tore a sleeve on one of their offshore jackets (a little over 2 years old). They offered to lend me a replacement while they looked at my damaged waterproof. That turned out to be unecessary, they fitted a new sleeve and couriered the jacket back to me within 4 days. Inside was a note apologising for the inconenience and of course, there was no charge.

I would gladly have paid for the repair and Musto had no responsibility for the damage.

Great products, excellent service.

I don't have any Musto sailing clothing. Both Mrs. S and I bought Musto Professional Equestrian jackets years ago (c. 1990) from Peter Stunt. After 6 - 7 years the linings started wearing through around the waist drawcord. I had a word with Peter and he said "send them back to Musto". Musto relined both jackets and hoods FOC - I am still wearing mine most days and besides some pilling on the Alcantara collar it is 100%. Still waterproof, still smart.

Send it back - Musto's customer service used to be excellent, I expect it still is.

The Musto crew bags are similar in quality, both of mine lost their zip pulls within months.. hardly the quality you expect, especially when it is marketed for sailing use which suggests constant ins and outs of yachts/cars etc.

They have since improved the design however, perhaps more than one person made a complaint!!

As for the Musto Ocean kit, I have no complaints, the oil skins are the best and most reliable things I own together with the mid layers and boots.

Don't understand this. As others have stated, Musto's have an excellent after sales record in my experience. They even repaired my ancient Ocean jacket which had developed a leaky seam, and yes, it was FOC.

Terrific company and great products iMHO, so I think you are just unlucky. As others have said, just return it with a nice note - you may well also end up as a Musto ednthusiast!!

Likewise, I had a complete suit of HPX oilies replaced when the fabric/membrane lamination started to brealk down. The zip pull on another Musto jacket did break the other week; jacket was bought in 1997 so I'm not complaining in fact I was wearing it today.

I have a small grouse with my current Musto MPX trousers but over the years I have worn the mid- and top-range products from all the major suppliers and Musto have been consistently at the top of the tree

Zips on this type of clothing do seem to have the potential to be a weak point.
I have a Compass Offshore jacket which, although not as expensive as Musto gear, still cost a fair amount. The zip closer on it has just fallen apart. The jacket is about 4 years old but is still in good order with plenty of life left in it and I have always been happy with its performance.
Does anyone know if it would it be worth contacting Compass with a view to a repair?
Apologies for hijacking the thread, but the subject is similar.
Cheers

CJ

Yep, I had a jacket which had the zip break on it, I took it back to their store in Cowes and they kindly sent it off for repair, then about two months later the zip broke again.

Given up on Musto as it was not the first item that I have had from them that let me down, I also had an expensive offshore jacket about 10 years ago and the velcro on that came unstitched.

I doubt I will be buying from them again

I have an Ocean HPX jacket that the lining and zip has come apart in. I was amazed given the price of it. I figure that they'll repair it but it's such a hassle to send it back.

Dude

So send it back and see what happens? should not have broke but it did so give them the chance, if they fail then....they are are very good so will be surprissed if its bad

I suppose I could give it a try, just seems like a lot of hassle now for something that has gone wrong twice already! I am now well out of the warranty period though, so not sure really that I can expect them to fix it.

I will send it back and see what happens. I will probably post some gushing comments about how fab they are and how they are all now my best mates in a couple of weeks time, we will see!

Musto, another not impressed user

I bought my jacket + trousers in Paris and when at sea, in the Baltic, I realized the hood was far too small. Paris didn't move so I called the Musto Mkt in the UK who asked me to send the jacket back to them in England.
Well, the jacket came back with a new hood but same size... well done, Musto
