All over the copper coated hull !

To be fair to coppercoat, it hasn't been lifted for at least six years.

Indeed one would not want to eat them. But mussels are able to some extent to de-toxify copper and other heavy metals by sequestration as metallothioneins, and then excrete them - but it costs them in energy/growth terms to do so, which might perhaps explain why they look a bit small!
