Re: Mugs of tea are on me !! I\'m a dad again...

Just got back .
This will make you laugh, I had seen it ages ago knew it was for sale but he wanted far to much money ( imho) . I had pictures of the boat and when I went past Wisbech I used to stop have another look and see if things had changed re condition.
So I had not been onboard until today , yes mad you might think but .
Taking into account the work recently done, the engine gear box generator and other thing's like, any one who buy's a wooden expecting not to do work is crazy as there will always be work needed.
Also I am (imho ) very up to date re what's for sale where it is and how much it is , you should see the set up, most of it .I memorised Not much is selling these day's mainly because thing's are well over priced , it's a buyers market.
Any way taking all of these factors into account and knowing what the fella was paying for mooring's ,I thought I'd make him an offer !!!!!!!! blimey he accepted DAM !! to much offered ??.
So last night went over paid the dosh got the paper work and key's and went down to it this morning .

AS expected the hull is ok there is plenty of water seepage through the deck at or along the gunnels.
I lifted the generator cover ooooooohhhhhhhh twin air cooled Lister with big gen unit , I could not see the numbers but it must be in access of ten kva and forty amps , even better it started fist time on the handle no smoke or rattles ( THIS GETS BETTER )
The engine room as you would expect has been dripping condensation for two years or so, so most thing's are red rust but movement re shafts on the engine driven water pump and the starting generator that runs from the generator has movement as well. The hydraulic steering is new or was two years ago .
So it's a cracking start , I will see if the batteries that are on charge are up to the job then start up , different people have said it runs well and I don't have any reason to dought this.
After engine and box steering are running I then need to cut the front mast off , or it wont fit under the bridge to get to my mooring's .
I know the starting side off the generator which will start the engine via a big motor needs sorting , there are fuses missing from the main board but I will sort that out because the previouse owner told me there was a problem with that .
I'm not bothered abot the deck leaks and will wait untill the spring before attempting work on this .

Pictures will be up soon but I have had to reboot my pc and now have to re down load the web site .
Cheers

Re: Just for one awffull second

ha ha yes but not one of those boats don't stress us out like children .

Any way yes it was one of the Shetland buses , I have a news paper cutting telling of when the German's captured the ship , lined up all on board and executed them.
Also over the years family tradition's of christenings .
I'd like to find out more about the smuggling !! some information from literature suggests 11 knots and personal accounts of former crew say the boat was fast so all interesting .

I would enjoy reading the book so if you have the numbers I can order it .

There is now a page devoted to Danbrit on my web site , it is slow to load because of the large pictures , I will speed it up as I develop the page .
Cheers
