Mugging at Sea?

Seems big risk of getting caught for the quoted £300 street value of a few sole?

Seems mad to me, none of the reports I can find explain why this is "a thing" or if there's any further back story.

Easier to get rid of yachty gear than fish surely.

Almost anything seems more profitable and portable than fish. It's beyond my ken.

Surely there must be some backstory here. Once they had left did he not have a VHF, even a hand held? Did they know that he didn't have one? Surely a call to the CG would have resulted in the police being informed and maybe intercepting them when they landed.

If people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, then surely people who threaten others with a knife shouldn't be using an inflatable as their preferred means of transport.

I thought about this. I suppose the assailants must have come alongside in some sort of friendly fashion, otherwise in my case if forewarned I have weaponry to hand and the first guy over the rail would have a very hard time. Then there's the inflatable/knife/sharp grappling hook issue, I could have thrown a grapnel into it and probably torn it badly, but would I want them aboard with me longterm?
Fish like sole and lobster is a popular theft item being untraceable and expensive, and easy to shift at the pub back door.
