Did I get mugged at LIBS?

Opposite the Sealine stand there were some chaps selling 'A Glaze', a 'marine surface sealant sytem'. It apparantly forms a surface shield on gelcoat which protects it from any pollutants and stains. It consists of a surface preparation and a separate sealant. You can do a 35 ft boat in less than 2 hours. The demo looked good, you couldnt even leave any fingermarks on the finished surface.

You guessed it, I coughed up and bought a pack. The 2 bottles of sealant are tiny, just 120 ml each, but I am assured you use it 'very sparingly'

Am I an idiot?

Oh yes how much? Well it was a boat show special offer see, so it was only £80...

HOW MUCH

I guess I am an idiot then, unless you guys know otherwise.

I probably don't want to see the replies to this.

Oh by the way has anybody got any old cloths that they would like to sell at about 50 quid a yard because I will probably be inthe market for 'em.

If it does what it says on the tin and you have a gleaming boat that requires little other attention in 2/3 years, then you will be a winner. I'd love to know if it works for you this season, 'cos my boating is done primarily in an estuary fed by two rivers and as such my boat turns steadily "browner" as the season progresses.

One thing I have used to counter this though (after cleaning with Y10 gelly) is Starbrite Teflon Yacht polish. Its brilliant, it works and its £14.

Oi, who you you calling a muppet - Muppets are intelligent friendly things - you would never see Miss Piggy spending £80 on face paint !!

Anyway at LBS this guy offered to clean my shoes (yes they needed it - cus they are my "doss about" boat shoes) then tried to flog us the cleaner for £10. We er said thankyou but no.

errr.. they cleaned mine and I brought a pack for a £ 10.

If it stops SHWMBO whinging about the state of my yottie shoes then it'll be well worth it!

I think the boat polish was reviewed in a mag a little while ago and they remarked how good it was. Mind you for £ 80!!!!

Shoe stuff

Don't fret, I bought some of this stuff 2 years ago. Works a treat and lasts for yonks. I've only used about an inch out of the pot so I recon I've enough left for about 10 years.

ooh, I'm a rioght mug for anyhting that says "boat" on it or "marine". And 80 quid sounds believeable whereas £14 sounds a bit ho hum overpriced 5 quid stuff in a clever tin. I mean, the 80 quid stuff must be really fab.

Re: Shoe stuff

Sure is Renapur and it works wonderfully, the shoes done at LIBS still look good.
Also smells nice as well.
