Tutts, with amaising grace. Aloud us to have the remainder of our summer hols afloat.
So off we goes last Sunday. Wrung the new prop man on Monday and they'd come! Thats the props not the man. Fitting was arranged for Wednesday, which was a bit of a bugger cos that meant coming and going all week instead of the usual round trip up every orifice in the west.
Anyway tootaling out of the marina theres a sign I'd noticed for ages. It said "Ship Bunkering. Phone 0----------? So we did. Oh no said the nice man. Cant fill up there. Pipe to big.
But!!! I dont believe what came next. Theres a bloody fuel barge, right outside my bloody marina. Its called "Bouncer" But theres no sign on it. Dont say nothing about fuel for sale. Anyway its just up Cattewater, outside Yacht Haven. About 23P but prices change daily.
So bummed about down to Fowey and back till Wednesday. New props, four bladed ones, weighed a ton and looked twice as big and heavy as old three blade ones. Thought we'd be lucky to get 12 knots dragging those things behind. But very plesantly surprised to find, just as the man said. Much smoother and reached a much improved cruising speed at about 3400 RPM.
On the way back into Plymouth, theres a Russian ship sneaking in. So spent the night dreaming up ways of dealing with it. Best plan seemed to be to turn the tender into a torpedo and attatch rechargable drill to front with hammer action deploid! Turns out it was Navy Day on Saturday so thats why it had come. Bugger, it did not know what a close shave it had had. Had to content our selves with just getting in the way of the Helecopters, Harriers and commandoes on Saturday instead. Also discovered that the hydraulic pump on the four year old auto pilot is knacked and they dont sell spare parts so 400 quid. Must be something similar on a machine some place for nearer 40 quid. Anybody??
Did manage to sink Y Knots tender on the way back from the pub though so not all invain!! Mr Y Knot is a lurker round these parts. Says he's trying to get registered but cant. A Likely story.

Scrubbers response

So all cleaning efforts in vain, bet you had the new props on board for weeks you b#####d ;-) What speed were you getting?

So where did you get to this time, guessed you were away by lack of posts, you must have had some decent weather.

Re: Scrubbers response

Caught up with him in dielette and he went off to Sark and St Peter Port but thats all I know. He didnt have the new props when I spoke to him in Dielette.

Re: Scrubbers response

Oh no no no! The scruber helped alot and must have added at least err! well alot. Cruising speed now 21-22 knots which looks much better on the dial than 17-18. Never went to France this trip, Doms telling fibs. Just went to Looe, Fowey, Agafa Chrispies and Cawsands as well as the Navey Day. All very steady and relaxing, just like Tutts likes it.
