My capricious clipper

Harmony came with a clipper duet -

one of these

http://www.seamarknunn.com/acatalog...gclid=CO-O6ayt570CFanjwgod4UsAGw#.U0-yiG1iIgQ

and it is behaving in a most bizarre way

first of all I know that the voltage is correct - superdave has checked it all

sometimes it will come on straight away - other times it will do nothing but over the next hour it will slowly fade up into existence

sometimes it will run all day - and sometimes it will suddenly die six hours in

sometimes it will stop working and turning it off and tuning it on will work again

sometimes turning it off creates a brief half second on life before it dies

during all this time the lights will wok and a radio when placed close by will create a clicking noise

so chaps

have any of you found similar symptoms and managed to solve them or found anyone who can refurbish the unit?

or....

does anyone want to sell me/swap for DVds an old but working display

I am not bothered about the log so just an echo-sounder without the log would work.

Sounds like a poor connection between the glass LCD display and the circuit board where the rubber strip connector is a bit iffy.
If you cand take the display apart, you may be able to clean the conductive faces of the board, glass and conductive rubber strips. All depends how easily the display unit can be disassembled and reassembled.
This was a common problem on older Saab displays.

The symptoms definitely remind me of water-ingress in various bits of kit in the past.

I dunked a phone once while washing up; its performance was decidedly intermittent until I'd taken it apart and left it in the hot sun for a day or so. Fine once it had dried thoroughly.

I love "slowly fade up into existence". It's existential.

Are you sure you are not related to Jean Paul Satre ?
