Mscan Meteo

Don't have an Icom (Kenwood ts680), but it's irrelevant as I use the audio out jack straight to the mic input of the soundcard. Do have a com1 cable (rs232) somewhere but laptops don't have old style ports any more. Absolutely no problem configging and using.

I had Mscan demo version to try and they plastered 'demo' in such large letters over the faxes it was impossible to see to try it. The registered version is expensive too.

We also have SeaTTY which does Fax and RTTY exceptionally well and is my first choice The demo free version is perfectly adequate and so good I did register, I think about $30 only and well worth it. Google SeaTTY, I think it comes via DXSoft in Germany.

There is another we have on our old laptop, also free demo version and also quite good, can't think of the name at the moment!

In all cases the connections from SSB to the laptop is via a lead from the external speaker jack on the SSB to the microphone input on the laptop. This is a mono not stereo lead so you need a mono lead or join the 2 channels together inside one plug of a stereo lead. I bought a mono lead from PC World but that was 8 years ago.

You will need to tweak some settings in whichever software to match your computer to the fax signals. The instructions are in the online software manuals and once you know how is easy enough, but I struggled initially until someone gave me his figs to use as a starting point. This is what adjusts the fax to give an undistorted picture.

I have loaded this to a few systems and have all been via a Pactor modem. If you have no modem, then you have to go RS232 (maybe via a USB <> RS232 converter)for control and audio in via your sound card (mic in).

Works OK in either config.

We use via Pactor, although with sailmail program being so versatile now, we tend just to use this, so Mscan has taken to the backrow.
Airmail program (sailmail) is free (the sailmail service costs), so take a look
