I have an MS2 gearbox fitted to my volvo MD17c ,the box has started to jam in reverse and only with great effort am I able to return to neutral . there's no problem with the cables or linkages - can anyone help and point to a possible cause/solution. If I do have to remove the box how much clearance behind the box will I need to withdraw it ?

as last post said , could be worn cone and or selector, had my gearbox reconditioned 3 years ago, when the thing would not got into forward gear without a couple of revs and a clunk into gear, a little hairy when trying to get into a marina or tight space against harbour wall, it is now fixed , and dont have to think about it, slides into the gears like a hot knife on butter, but it was not cheap, the cone and the bevelled gears which the clutch like linings are attached to are £350 and £620 for each part, labour and oils came to £300, shimming of gearbox is vital, not a diy type of job....hope i am not a bearer of bad news, but an expensive job, but boat and piece of mind alot better...

thanks for that imput, as I am planning to change the engine + gearbox at the end of this season for a perkins M30 35 hp+ PRM120 box , so I was hoping for a 'quick fix' for my problem with my present MS2 box , which appears not to be possible ,
Anyone know if I can fit my new PRM120 box to the old MD17c engine as a solution ,
(as the boat is now sitting on its mooring I carn't fit the new engine + box now ,and am not to keen to have it hauled out again)
