Is there a retirement home for old string

[/ QUOTE ]

Yup - two big bags in my garage.

Never, ever, throw rope away - it may come in useful one day. (That's what I tell wifey, anyway... /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif)

Ah now you see, I have come to the conclusion that very little, if any at all, of that kit (of any description) that you keep because one day ........... ever actually gets used. My list of "to ebay" grows by the day.............

Oh dear me no, everything I have ever managed to get hold of for boating has a use, either now or in the future, it's just that I haven't found a use for some of it yet /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Might be going over the top with boat hooks though, four of them strapped on deck should add extra bouyancy I think /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

At the moment Guapa carries:
- 2 spare fixed GPS + antenna
- 1 spare BNIB Jabsco head (because it was cheap) + apart from bowl an entire Lavac in spares
- 160m of halyards & sheets
- 2 outboards (fully functional) + enough spares to build another one.
- 90m of 'spare' warps
- 1 spare fixed VHF

Also been thinking about eBay, but odds are that a week after I've sold some of it I'm going to need it.

I should have been more clear in that I differentiate between allocated and non-allocated "kit". Spares (for working kit that you already have AND use), are classified (in my noggin anyway) as you so rightly say, as spares.

Not sure where this post is going now ..... /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Well now, there's Mr Tinkles, Mrs Tinkles, Miss Tinkles and Master Tinkles on your boat. Course it's not over the top at all though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm not sure either, but I thought I saw the whole thread hopping aboard a number 22 bus...........you might be able to catch it if you run! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is there a retirment home for old string or do they all sit ad-infinitum, unused, sad and lonely in the bottom of our damp and dingy cockpit lockers ???

[/ QUOTE ]
I replaced my main halyard recently and threw the chaffed bits of the old one in the skip. I now have an interesting selection of mooring ropes ranging in length between 2 and 5 meters.

looks precarious

Erm, I might have lashed that. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I was absolutely going nowhere when I did it, honest.
