Well it all started on a cold winters day, there I was pushing my trolley round my local Tescos and what do I spied, this orange tanned sleek looking degreasing Mr Muscle bottle. With promises of a lovely orange scent residue. So I got some.

Well I decided to have a go at the Bilges on Brig, and as I am the smallest I can just about get round them. But I thought I need some muscles So yes you guessed it , My Mr Muscles came too.

Now being a women I did some pre planning about this exercise, I put it the car, my [Old suck up anything] VAX machine, extension cable, steam cleaner, loads of kitchen roll . Mr Muscles and a sponge.

So down I go into the black hole, we call our engine room, so squirt, steam Hoover, squirt steam Hoover, the boiling water in bilges, poured in some Mr Muscles swirl it round with a sponge and Hoover out, final squirt with Mr Muscles and a rub off with Kitchen roll, guess what there is more white than black now .

Thank you to My Mr Muscles /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Glad it worked Julie but am slightly concerned about you health.

Did you have suitable ventilation when you were down in the depths inhaling that nicely chemical cleaner and heated oil ?

Or did you borrow a nice tight wet suit and breathing kit ??

Glad to see an expert!!! with a bilge like mine. But cant see Mr Muscle having any effect on mine. The oil scum just seems to ouse from everywhere, though I never put oil in. It's orible manky mess, when ever I try to clean it out, I have an oil slick to compare with the Torry Canion disaster!!!!

I believe that they do a commercial heavy duty one as well in a different coloured bottle ( you can only get it at certain shops) so that must be even better?

Hi Julie
Ten out of ten for effort, pity about the white!
Try "Gunk" from any motorists shop, use a brush to put it on if cleaning an engine it's easier, then wash off using squirter or hose pipe (Mind the electrics and oil dip stick)
Works a treat and nice clean engine!
PS. down side is you need to pump out dirty water from bilge!
But bilges sure look cleaner.

I agree with Tynesider and if it is OK to go down the sink it is OK to go into the sea, isn't it?
Has anyone tried 'Sillit Bang' that Barry Scott keeps telling us about. Is it any good for cleaning brasswork?

A good one to try is Parrafin and washing up liquid, mix it together and it turnes into a jelly like stuff. Paint it on and it is like a cheaper version of gunk and it works very well ? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
