Mower fuel problem

My petrol mower (sorry but I guess it could also apply to an outboard) seems to get an air lock after its run for a time and then I turn it off. If I drop the float bowl it then gets fuel ok and starts. Any ideas why this should be ?
Its undoubtedly in hibernation mode

Modern outboards have soft tip needles ........ They can stick on the seat so are fitted with tiny clips to link them to the float arm, then when the float drops it pulls the needle off the seat. Maybe your problem is the needle sticking on the seat

Maybe the float is sticking

As PVB says check the tank vent

If the fuel pipe is not a direct downward path from tank to carb it could actually air lock.......... shorten the pipe to remove any "S" bend

Throw the mower away and get a couple of alpacas ........ they will keep the grass short, see off any foxes and the neighbours' dogs

What make is your o̶u̶t̶b̶o̶a̶r̶d̶ err I mean mower?

Thanks for the tips. Alpacas fairly niche so going for sheep instead.
If you have sheep you must have an alpaca in with them to protect them from dogs and foxes. Only one though because if you have more they look after each other and let the dogs get the sheep

My sister had alpacas and she told me they have remarkable eyesight in that they could pick up slight movement a mile away and they will just stand there watching.... and watching.... until satisfied there is no danger.

Depending on how long it runs for, it could be the coil breaking down when it gets hot - I had this with mine - it would run happily for half an hour then cut out. If I left it for 10 mins to cool it would start again quite happily and run for another half hour. Replaced the coil and all seems fine.
