Moving to the Motor Boat forum

I think that one of the contributory causes of what appears to be high engine use in my tables is the fact that we are there for half the year. We are in no hurry to go anywhere, so if the wind doesn't suit, we don't go. We have no aversion to sailing in most wind conditions but why beat into a force 6 if by waiting a day it will be a force 4? Inevitably, on some occasions it won't be a force 4 but a force 0.

Surely we can't be that unusual? Our sailing hours are way higher than our motoring ones! Somebody back me up. Please?:)

Same on Kindred Spirit generally, though a couple of Channel crossings under power for Scuttlebutt purposes will have offset that. But mostly I was always sailing locally, not making passage. So I went wherever the wind and tide dictated - or at least was prepared to do so rather than motor.

A seaworthy displacement motorboat carrying a substantial sailing dinghy definitely seems like a very practical combination, though, if your goal is going places rather than simply sailing for its own sake.

We like exploring and cruising which means long passages and that requires TIME. If time was not an issue we would sail our cruises. We don't do day boating.

getting back to OP's original question. having spent several years in the Ionian (in our semi D mobo) yachts under sail are a rare sight. The main participants are flotilla boats and short term charters who arent particularly going anywhere. If you are going to motor everywhere why not do it in a boat designed for that purpose and enjoy the extra comfort/space/accommodation that most mobos will offer.
