Moving to East Coast

Frankly I couldn't cope with those temperatures anymore. Very brave.

2-3m under the keel? Generous on the East Coast. Frankly I get dizzy when the figures get double.

Some fog but not too bad. 15 minutes after I arrived in Ramsgate the visibility dropped next to nothing. Any later and I would have had a job finding the entrance.
Last year I bought a box of 40 pairs of handwarmers. This was to replace the previous years box that I could no longer find. Of course when I went to stow them away the first box was there. So this weekend there was no sparing of disposable hand warmers. They made a hell of a difference to staying cosy.
I anchored off Dungeness Power Station at 23:30 and resumed at 0430. Just long enough to get a reasonable amount of kip and wait for the tide to turn. Not suitable for everyone due to the swell.

Good move, anchoring there, but yes, you need the leecloths!

You have broken the back of it; now you just pop across the outside of the Estuary and you are there. Harwich is a very easy and safe harbour to make, but stay just south and west of the dredged channel until you get to the Guard buoy.

... and don't cut the corner across the Harwich Shelf, the buoy is only there during the summer...

Welcome to the shallow brown paradise.

Quick update. (All to often we only get half the story.)
Last Saturday I left Ramsgate around 9:30am. Arrived Shotley marina about 5pm. I was pleasantly surprised by Shotley. It rarely gets a mention but staff were great. It's the only marina I've come across with baths in the shower block.
The crossing was straight forward taking the Folgers Gat route through the wind farm. Made good use of 'Crossing the Thames' purchased at the boat show.
Left Shotley around 10am on the Sunday to arrive Ipswich Haven Marina at midday just before the rain started.
One surprise on route: The Navionics Charts I had only extended to North Foreland so after that it was back to paper.
Many thanks to people on here giving there suggestions etc.
I'm berthed just to the left of the Marina Office if anyone wants to pop by.

It's a permanent berth. They run from Jan to Dec here. I didn't put much thought into the location. I just needed mid-week accommodation for a job away from home. Main criteria was easy access to Bury St Edmunds and a train link. I'm very pleased with the spot allocated in the marina.

I need to pick somewhere to keep my boat later this year and so I'm interested in your thoughts.

Shotley is worth a close look. Very secure, excellent facilities, great staff. The location is ideal, with the sea and two lovely rivers on the doorstep. Reasonable on-site pub/restaurant. Always something to see in the harbour. And none of the shoreside rowdiness which can affect the Ipswich marinas.

I'd agree with all of that Pete. Not forgetting the Velux windows in the ablutions block.
