Judging by the doward tone of the forum lately & all the complaints against...Goverment; Royalty; Nanny state; Mooring fees & even poor old SAGA.
I thought you might like to put your collective sailing IQ to an early season passage plan test
My problem....its only a little one, but I need to bounce some ideas, please.
I am curently moored in Yachthaven Plymouth & I have to leave by the end of Feb or I start paying visitors rates, thats £127 a week... so I am moving to my permanant mooring at Starcross on the Exe.
BUT I understand from the locals that the entrance is getting silted & it should not be atempted in bad weater or a south easterly & I should get plenty of water under the keel, by that they mean 1 to 2 hours befor High tide. Looking at the weather forecast and the tides this weekend. It looks ok for weather but the tides at Exmouth are crap how would you plan it?
Take it in two bits say 20 nm to Salcombe then last 20 nm following weekend.
Or Plymouth to dartmouth 34nm, ok I would be fighting the tide for the first part but around Start point, say around 14:00 on Saturday or Sunday I would have the tide with me al the way to Dartmouth.
Obviously there are many other factors but should I go for it this weekend & get to the Exe early on the 27Th feb (subject to the weather) if I get there around 12:00 I would be at slack high water BUT its only a neap.
Any local knowledge or input would help me make an informed decision
I will be in Shady which is a 30' Moody she can do 14 knots.....nah not really about 4.5 to 6 max, so 30 odd nm will be about 6 to 7 hours & that is if all conditions are ok.
