As a sailer , I am always interested in catching my supper. Would anyone else like to see catch reports ? I fish practically every trip would it be a idea to share how, where, when. Last season I had loads of bream, bass, mackerel, some conger, skate. And in the folding pot brown crab, spider crab, velvet swimmers.

Yes please and ideally in a digestible format e.g. online spreadsheet, if possible.

Most keen on the "how"! What lures, what speed, what distance trolled. I am as you may guess a less successful fisherman so far :)

Excellent idea. Shared recipes might also be a good idea

Except I'd have to provide air tickets and I'm conditioned to be parsimonious - hailing from North of the Border.

But add to the list, Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Mahi Mahi (aka dolphin fish), jew fish (if that is not considered religiously insensitive), king fish (very approproriate) and in the pots, Blue swimmers, crayfish and fresh/salt water eels (delicious). We bait the pots with the fish heads and bones

We trawl as soon as we get out from enclosed waters and heading south we try to sit on the 100 fathom line (as that is where the East Australian Current resides (so its warm). We'ed trawl at 5-10 knots, using Fluor artificial lures. Game fishing rods. We fish for food, not sport (and one decent fish lasts and lasts)..

Almost a waste of time in the Med hardly caught any fish. As soon as i got into the Atlantic i caught 3 Spanish mackerel. This was all trawling at about 5 or 6 knots with spinners.

I thought I'd add...

We use stainless trace and braided dyneema line.

When we have something on the line I retreive. I try to let the fish beach itself on the transom using the wash. We have a big transom platform. I have a chopping board and knife handy most of the mess is kept to the lowest transom step - which is then auto washed by the following seas. If its questionable I might use a harness and tether.

When I sailed in the Med I used para vain called a stim shaped like a shoe. when a fish was on it turned the shoe over and you could see it being dragged along the surface. I had a few mackerel and skipjack tuna. I don't know if it was coincident or not but the bigger the lure the bigger the fish. About four knots seemed to be the best speed for catching.

I don't think you will catch a sprat on a 3" hook!
I use the Dart shaped paravane and a 'Red Gill', as I'm only looking for a fish for dinner, with feathers I can catch too many.
I agree, but with a 3" hook you stand a chance of catching something bigger than you bargained for.:)

I've got a orange commercial fishing paravane that is a lot larger than the little ones in the tackle shops but you can't go as fast ,about 2-3 kns. Also use the little ones as you can drag them along at 6 kns. Also use self diving lures on there own. Roll on summer
