Since changing jobs and moving I am not getting the time to use my beneteau Flyer 8 metre in Poole, I am considering a move from Cobbs quay to Penton Hook. a little bit of research here with the search button reveals the need to consider BSS regs. I understand my sea toilet now has to be sealed up or removed and things like gas flexi hoses need updating, what else do I need to do?

When do I have to get the boat inspected? Can I put it in the water at Penton Hook before inspection??

You need to get the BSS certificate before you can apply for a river licence. Getting a BSS surveyor to Poole is expensive, so suggest you move the boat to Penton Hook and get the inspection/work done there.

If it helps the cost to move a Sealine F33 from Poole to the Windsor would be £450.

The Thames can be very pleasant but I suspect rather tame after being at Poole! six months of the Thames with your engine/s smoking like anything because they need a good workout and the constant need to stop and go through another lock will change your mind!

Then of course there is the constant rules and regs that the powers that be keep coming out with to make you spend your hard earned cash on changing pipes/electrics and anything else they feel like enforcing! just a few reasons I got off the Thames years ago!

Barry, do not be such a cynic. Sometimes they bring out rules then decide they aren't necessary and rescind them as in the hated BSS. Of course they wait until everyone and their Aunt Winnie have paid for the costly first.

Hi Byron,

You are absolutely right, I thought that would provoke a few comments! seen Ocean Eagle lately? I nearly bought her 18 months ago, glad I didn't now as the economy has gone belly up!
