At rather short notice, I have to help move my brother's boat to Bristol from Richmond. 38ft by 13ft by 5ft 6ins. Air draft about 10ft.

One possibility is by road; the other is to use the canal system.

In the latter case, air draft is the limiting factor it seems.

I've ferreted around a few canal websites, but is there any site with all the maximum measurements please ? Or is it a question of putting the boat on a big trailer ?

At 10 feet A/D will she not clear through the K&A??

It appears not, I just checked the K&A dimensions.......

Yep, see edited post above, 7 foot 8ins in one place....bummer!

Sail it round??.........Trucking will be a pain, and very expensive.

You do not say what the vessel is. If sailing it there is an option I fear that after such a long journey the cost of fuel coupled to wear and tear will ultimately cost more than having her transported by road.
The thing is in this economic climate you will be able to negotiate quite a good deal with a boat transporter. I would imagine the lift on and off would cost more than the actual transportation cost.

no no no (I seem to be using that a lot in reply to you :grin)

I'll rephrase that. err. Through a link suggested by an ever helpful forum member , I have found a website with all the details. Many thanks.

BTW, after a phone call it looks as if he will have to stick it on a trolley and pull it along the M5.
