One for the Coté D'Azur gang - I just shipped some stuff down for our boat and apartment to Beaulieu sur Mer. I used these guys http://rivieratransport.com/tablet/index.html

A great service. They have a warehouse in Portsmouth where you can get your stuff shipped to and then they will move it down to suit your schedule. Our stuff arrived within 10 mins of when we asked for it on the day we wanted. I was so impressed I thought it worth sharing.

No links except that of a happy customer.

Yep, Brian and Marcus Bazley, really nice guys, they've moved my scooter up and down a few times (and although they don't know it yet, they'll be doing it again next month... :D).

Thanks. Useful to have a name, assuming they move stuff from CdA to UK as well.

Used them many times in the past and always liked dealing with them. Before the crash of '08 there was a commodity surge and everything in French shops went up and up in price. That, combined with the drop in sterling we found we could get our grocery shopping done in England and have them deliver it to us cheaper than shopping locally. Only downside was trying to get Tesco to deliver to a commercial address. Marcus and team were always very helpful. Eventually you acclimatize to the new reality and start shopping locally again.

They sound useful ... when I moved down here 18 months ago I used White's of Portsmouth. Gave them a detailed map and photos of the road, driveway etc ... some arrogant manager type said they wouldn't be needed as their drivers were so professional so must have binned all the instructions ... not only did they arrive 9 hours late they got lost and we had to drive out to find them, loads of stuff was damaged or broken and some items stolen. We got all that more or less sorted but some things we didn't discover for months. They said it would be stored in a container but it wasn't it was unloaded and loaded 3 times one depot to another. When they did get here they were so late they started chucking stuff out of the lorry onto the drive etc etc ... total horror story! Not recommended and it's good to discover someone so highly praised.

Is that the same White's as in post #9!?

White's were so bad for us this must be a different one ... White's of Portsmouth is the one we used. I think they're called White and |Company and have many branches all over the country ... maybe the guy above was luckier than we were!

Sounds like the same company but our experience(s) couldn't be further from that. They were really excellent both collecting from here in York and delivering in Mallorca.

Could you give me an order of cost?

I have been thinking about doing a motorcycle tour down that neck of the woods next year and would ride down and then loiter with intent for a month or so. For the return, I was investigating shoving the bike on the train and then flying to Paris to pick it up and onwards home because I like touring the wiggly interesting bits but hate flogging up major roads.

You should send a pm to forumite Deleted User, we're touring the Alps on our bikes again this summer and Mike similarly doesn't like the motorway run - so he has his bike trucked to Geneva, flies there and then does the interesting stuff before dropping the bike back off at Geneva and flying home. (I quite like the long-distance stuff on the motorways so I just ride down in one day from Brighton). But to answer your question - a few hundred quid, varying by how precious the bike it, and where the specific collection and delivery points are.

Must have been a different branch! For anyone even considering White's it's too risky in my experience ... phone Pickford's ... our problems arose because for the first time in many moves we didn't use Pickford's. If there's a time gap between collecting and delivering they put your stuff in a container and leave it there till delivery ... White's led us to believe they did the same (they lied) but loaded it in a lorry, offloaded it at their Bournemouth branch then loaded it back on to a lorry before delivering it late and with some stuff very damaged or missing!

Sounds like we've had a lucky escape or three! Can only comment on the service we received which was very good.
