Just wonder if you have genoa and mainsail up when motoring. The cone is behind the sails on the other tack. what do the COLREGS say about this ? Just wonder.....

A vessel proceeding under sail when also being propelled by machinery shall exhibit forward where it can best be seen a conical shape, apex downwards.

Why bother, there's millions of 'em lying around on the M6 & 5. AND the have hi-vis reflective tape on 'em. Mind you the flat black square bits are a b*gger to get off. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
If you don't in Holland then you must be , temporarily, very rich.
When I was starting out under main alone some twit decided that I must be motoring and therefore was the giveway boat when I was on starboard. I managed to miss the twit and explained the situation to them.

Er , don't want to seem argumentative , but if you seem to be in favour of prosecuting to the hilt in other threads , why don't you already have one /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Actually, the bases are realyl easy to remove. They're a simple push-fit. And what's left is easy to stow - it does the trick on the water!
( The guy who owns most of these, and leases them to Highways Agency contractors, makes several fortunes each year from his 'small business'. He's bored stiff with it...! )
I really can't understand why peeps are so reluctant to hang a cone-shape up forward when it's appropriate - it really is the work of a moment and there are always crew lurking about who can be tasked with the task. So what's all the problem....?

Oh, bruggle! The second bottle of Pays d'Oc is really kicking in, now. Splleling is nwo anybody;'s ges.......
Although I was shooting a string of pots at the time I altered for a gaffer ghosting along with all sail set in very light airs, as I thought he would be pressed to avoid me. Saw exhaust and propwash as he passed. I did tell him.
Cue 'permanent fishing signal' stuff for the rest of the day.
Must admit I don't have one. Going forward is not ideal at times and the things are not easy to rig, esp when singlehanded. There used to be a device that could be left rigged at the crosstrees, a bit like a cross between a flag and an umbrella, that did the job. Anyone know if these are still available?
Now THAT is a very sore point - I for one think that the time has come for our motley assortment of Fairways Committees to get togther, put a tenner on the mooring rents and appoint a water bailiff to do just that, since no-one else is going to.
the fairways committes only function is to administer the moorings in thier stretch of water, collect the Crown Estates Rent ( Read as TAXATION ) from mooring holders. They are NOT RIVER POLICE in any shape or form
