Motor /drive

The motor and drive in question is as follows:
1989 181 3.0 litre gm mercruiser w/ a mercruiser outdrive . I makes the noies when it is in gear and out of gear. It sounds like it is comming from the bell housing but not too sure what could go wrong with the parts inside of it. Please check out our other post for more info.

"but not too sure what could go wrong with the parts inside of it" ohhh ever so many things, gimble bearing, U/Js, upper gears, please describe noise a little more, for instance does it get worse if you turn the drive from side to side, is it a rumble or a knocking sound.
