As I have posted already, Im looking to get a Sports Cruiser in UK/Spain.

What do I need to complete to be legally allowed to skipper a circa 8m vessel in the UK and abroad (Assuming all areas have there own criteria?)?

Are UK courses internationally recognised etc

I have looked online and 'am unclear as to wether the "UK Day Skipper" is enough?

Any advice welcome :-)

If you keep the boat in the UK, the answer is nothing.

If you take a UK registered boat abroad, an ICC would be useful, although its debatable whether it is actually required.

If you take the boat abroad, keep and register it there, then you will probably need to comply with that country's requirements for certification.

Getting an ICC from a Powerboat Level 2 course should cover you for up to 10m (assuming you train on something over 6m IIRC). Those can be completed in 2 days. Separate course for VHF.

You definitely need an ICC is Spain. You could argue with the Guardia Civil that you don't as its UK registered etc - but they have big guns and look mean. (although my limited experience of dealing with them is that they are very polite and helpful)
I find quickly getting out my ICC and grovelling does the trick.

I combined a sailing holiday with a PB Level 2 ICC - we chartered a boat for a week in Majorca from a company that also was an RYA school. We had the training for the first two days, which gave us the ICC we needed to take the boat out on our own for the rest of the week.

Its also a lot nicer learning and practising on someone else's boat, rather than your own newly acquired pride and joy.

The ICC is then all you need as a British resident to skipper a British or Spanish boat in Spain.

You can keep a British flagged boat in Spain, as long as you remain British resident (i.e. spend most of your time in the UK).

Here is a list of which foreign qualifications are accepted in Spain:-

Scroll down to find the list of RYA qualifications acceptable, which includes ICC for up to 24m.
