What is the purpose of the short bowsprit with what looks like some kind of pendulum on foiling moths?

I believe the pendulum part is to keep the foils correctly orientated depending on boat angle

The "pendulum" as you call it has a float on the end, and adjusts the foil flaps automatically to retain a constant ride height.

It's actually called a "wand". I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called when I wrote the last post.

The bowsprit is to move the wand further in front of the main foil, increasing effective 'wheelbase'.

I thought it might be something to hang moth-balls on
