Mother\'s Day Suggestions

Mother's Day is in another four weeks, fellas. What shud a dedicated raggie be considering as appropriate for SWMBO for, say, under £100? Based on favourable reports on PBO forum, I am considering an electric polishing machine. But there must be many other ideas....

Ive just bought Tutts a Bex Bissel Carpet shampooer. Mind you the training program in order for her to use it properly will take some time. However it says that it does hard surfaces too so may be ok for the boats deck and maybe even the covers.

Why do you need to buy SWMBO anything for mothers day? If she's a mother then aren't your kids the ones that are supposed to buy her a present, as well as of course getting you something good on Father's day, whenever that is?

SWEMBO

SWExpectationsMBO, I guess. Household and shipboard mother figure, too. The gesture also helps indirectly to increase boat budget, and it comes just before relaunch when topsides need much attention (the boat's, not hers), hence the polisher.

I think you've hit on something. Bunch of flowers, give her topsides a buff up and leave it at that.

Father\'s Day

Father's Day is three months after Mother's Day. Of course, that means that it is also nine months before Mother's Day, a period which may have greater significance.

Ah, now I understand. Perhaps I can buy one of those radar chartplotter thingies even though my SWMBO rarely puts a foot on the boat and we don't have any kids! Then when it comes to Birthdays and Christmas and so on, I can say "but I bought you your main present for Mothers' Day"

Might I humbly suggest that you revert to calling it by its proper English name of Mothering Sunday instead of that awful American one. Then all you need is to get the kids to pick a bunch of primroses on the way home from Sunday School and keep up a fine British tradition.

Absolutely right, Cornishman, but it's even worse. Mothers' Day in the USA this year is 11th May, whilst Mothering Sunday in the Anglican world is 30th March. When my English-born mother was alive and living in the USA, she insisted we celebrate both the religous and profane dates!
