Despite being into boating for 9 years we've only ever done it alone as a family.

Initially we trailered a 21' Maxum and launched on the hard at Itchenor (Chichester Harbour) and for the last 3 years have dry stacked a 34' Windy Khamsin.

We're now planning to move up to a Fairline Targa and want to base her in a Marina with a good Yacht club & Social Scene.

A friend over in Essex does exactly this but for us its just too far. There must be similar clubs in The Solent but we just haven't come across them on our travels.

Try Port Hamble marina - RAFYC has direct access from the clubhouse to the pontoons. Lots of Rallies and caters for both Raggies and Mobos.

No need to have any connection with the RAF to join the club.

We boat as a family and have picked up one or two others on the way. My wife wants to start a families on board webpage (if we do it, we will probably set up a Facebook group) as, like you, we enjoy the company of others and find boating simpler when there are other kids to play with! The problem is finding other families! She thinks that we should organise family friendly meets....
We are a family of four with a 9 year old boy and an 11 year old boy (and two dogs.) Currently based at Haslar on a Prestige 46.

We recently visited Royal Southern YC and was impressed at how many families there were. They even have a kids games room (inc large screen and game consoles) right in the heart of the club. We saw just about every age - from baby right up to uni student. Everyone was most welcome and seemed very comfortable.

I dont think the club is hard to join either. Give them a call and I'm sure sombody would be only too pleased to show you around.

The other place with a decent kids club is my club, Royal Southampton. Families tend to hang around The Gins farm clubhouse on beauleiu and get a lot,of,fun dinghy sailing and playing with canoes, etc. All very swallows and amazons but with decent showers, power and a decent clubhouse.

Both clubs welcome mobos!

Chichester yacht club used to have a very active and family friendly motor section. I haven't been a member for a few years but assume they still do. Think they are doing a deal on membership fee's at the moment too.
