Lifted out about 2 months ago and decided to change the ATF oil in the sail drive leg. 2 weeks ago rechecked level and it was obvious water had emulsified with oil. The leg and engine are a new installation 2 years ago. When I changed the oil checked the manual and all seemed straightforward. Lifted out this morning and hung on slings for engineer to investigate. Diagnosis is that I didn't renew a small sealing washer on the drainage screw of the sail drive and that has allowed water ingress. Didn't know there was one and manual didn't mention it. So, lift out, 2 hours on slings and relaunch £339, (yard put me down as 28 feet instead of 33 and saved me £60), plus engineers costs. Final cost probably around £500. My ass is available for a kicking.

Down to the boat today and water in sail drive leg oil again. Obviously not getting in through drainage hole. At the time engineer said could be a faulty seal around the prop shaft ( or something along those lines) so I'm presuming will be covered under warranty. Question is am I responsible for lift out costs (twice), and engineers time to sort a problem that wasn't really the problem? Would value thoughts. At the end of the day just want to go sailing! Btw, sail drive is a Seapro 60.

Its not the yards fault -unless they employ the enginner.

However they can't have much work for the crane at this time of year and so, if you are a regular customer they might be prepared to lift out for free -or at least a very reduced cost

Chap in the yard said wouldn't bust my balls!

We've all made mistakes like the washer. The big sin is paying as much as £400 ( correct charge) for a lift out and return. You need to think about joining a properly equipped club and get things like that done for a quarter of the cost.

Bosun Higgs, if only! It's the price of convenience. I live beside the Marina, and yard is beside Marina. Engineer was down yesterday and has still not contacted me.
