most expensive moorings(excluding the Solent)

Ahem, I think that Salcombe has an enightened approach to rubbish disposal if I am not mistaken, they have a floating pontoon with recycling facilities. When you pay your dues they provide a leaflet informing you of the arrangements.

Still not cheap though.

Think you will find that Salcolmbe does have both showers and toilets, though I have never looked for them myself, much preffering the onboard facilities. Wast bins are provided on a rubbish pontoon, though I've always found this a crap and complicated arrangment.

Unless they have changed things recently, you have to go to the yacht club just up the hill to the south of main landing for showers, or to Egremont which is a boat and requires a tender or water taxi to get to. Never used Egremont, but yacht club is seperate to mooring fees, so you have to pay for the use of the showers. It's not well advertised, so you almost have to be in the know unless you ask around

...and not only that, I went at their request for the festival and because I arrived a week early they charged me for all the days except the festival. A bit peaked I was since the option might have been not to get there due to weather. It wasn't as if I was aboard either, just parked her and caught the train home.

On the general topic, I have moved West to Falmouth and thought the mooring and winter berthing would be cheaper and more available than the Solent. I was surprised to find it's not true, and that all the marinas are full for winter. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that there is a much higher ratio of swinging moorings to marinas than in the Solent, so there's more demand for Winter berths. This may or may not be the reason.

Anyone who knows of a swinging mooring in the general area for 47 feet and 26 tons that can take the ground on Springs if necessary, and that's not an arm and a leg do please let me know.

Anyway....

We had just over a fortnight at Salcombe this summer, which cost something over 200 squids (buy 6 get one free).

However, the family I passed time with whilst failing to catch any crabs for my daughter had paid over £2,500 to stay in Salcombe for a fortnight.

This means that I fully justified the annual mooring contract to my wife with the expert testimony of an independent stranger.

Right result!

Your right, Salcombe is expensive, but has it's charms.
