It's not for nothing that the classic car world has the concept of the "pingf*ckit". The first time I dismantled a synchro hub it took me three hours to find all the balls and springs ...If we're being honest, I think we've all probably been there and done that! My nightmare is servicing winches.
I did this with my car in a field once. Took the speaker out of the dashboard and swept it over the ground until the magnet found the missing screw.
As taught to me by my father 60+ years ago.If you cut a screw to length, first thread on a nut (towards the head/slot/socket). After the cut, clean up the end and remove the nut. The thread should be sufficiently restored.

Magnetic broom. Works on gravel too. DAMHIKTIf it's a nice day and I don't need the lift I sometimes work on my cars on the gravel drive and sometimes I forget to put down the large sheets of cardboard. I've lost track of the number of times I've got out my large magnet with the string attached and spent an hour or two "magnet swinging", all the while cussing at my own stupidity.

Ah - but you didn't say to put the nut on first. ?Also as taught by me 24 hours ago.

I needed a new clip for my Spinlock tiller extension. Part £6, shipping £7.50 from direct Spinlock. Went to my local chandler and they ordered the part, total cost £6. Sometimes chandlers are cheaper than dealing with the manufacturer, I know it is rare but it does happen.£6 delivery for a grub screw!!? I would expect them to bring it round personally for that sort of money. Seems fairly typical though nowadays to make a bit extra out of low cost items.
Very common in fact. Manufacturers go out of their way not to undercut their distribution chain.I needed a new clip for my Spinlock tiller extension. Part £6, shipping £7.50 from direct Spinlock. Got me! ?Perhaps that's because it's a grub screw?
