Thanks for that...

I have had my home made ringtone in morse ( cq cq cq ......) for some years now - it took me 4, yes 4, hours to create !!! on an old Nokia.

but then I am a Luddite....

thanks again.

cq cq cq ........

not "all ships" but the general call sign on RF. still used by ham radio operators, repeaters and a few other things.

like a lot of other really obsolete things (sextants for example! ), Morse is kept going by the sentimentalists /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi - thanks for the nice comments about my little site.

Not sure about morse being 'obsolete' however, though I fully admit to being a sentimentalist regarding it.

Though its not used commercially anymore and its on the way out internationally for radio amateur licensing, there are certainly real-life uses for it, especially in emergencies. From a radio point of view (lets not forget morse can be used with lights, taps on hulls etc) CW performs a lot better than SSB at getting a message from point A to B with the same power. Modern digital modes may be better, but they depend on laptops and/or sophisticated radios, which can easily go wrong. If you can get a transmitter to key up, then you've got CW.

Anyhow - thanks again /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
