I bought a Morgan Giles 30 2 yrs ago and love her to bits. She's GRP, built in 1978 and has classic lines (to my inexperienced eyes - I only started sailing 3 yrs ago). My marina yard manager refers to her as a wooden boat made out of plastic when we talk to others about her design and accomodation etc.
Is there a MG owners club in existence? I would love to find out more about MG's history and MG30's particularly.

We've had an MG 30 for about the same length of time as you. She was homebuilt by her previous owner on a Somerset plastics hull in the early 80's and has been all over the W. coast of Scotland, round Ireland and across the Atlantic. Lovely boat with quite a history. We'd be interested in learning more.

I've got one, too. She's osmotic but has been peeled and is drying out at Ridge Wharf, Whareham (Dorset). Hopefully she'll be ready to be expoxied in the spring. Mine's an older one ('69 I think) with wooden cockpit coaming. Lovely to sail (and look at) but she's in need of an overall refit. Sadly, as my other projects are more pressing she may stay out of the water for a while longer.

Meanwhile, I'd love to see a photocopy of that publicity material - I've searched high and low for any sort of literature/magazine reviews with no success. Anyone else got any more? I'd happily cover costs to get anything copied and posted!

I own a 1948 wooden Morgan Giles West Channel One Design, which is 28' and built in Teignmouth. I beleive around 6 were built, although certainly fewer exist now. She is very similar in hull design to the GRP Morgan Giles 30s with a spoon bow, transom-hung rudder and pretty sheer.
I have owned her for 8 years or so and have taken her across the Channel several times to Brittany and the Channel Islands. Although not as quick as modern boats of similar size, we have regularly sailed under the lee of larger Westerlies, Moodies and Beneteaus!
I would be very interested in joining other Morgan Giles owners of wooden and GRP boats either in a rally or some form of club.
I understand that the Teignmouth museum has some materials and plans from the Morgan Giles yard.
