Morgan Giles Boatbuilders Teignmouth Blue Plaque

On the vast mud bank on the opposite side of the river he would have been pleased to see a whole fleet of Eventides,designed by Maurice Griffiths to be built in plywood…..1968 although the name now escapes me……Shaldon?
HI WAndsworth , yes thats the Villiage of Shaldon on the opposite River Bank ; It has its own Boatbuilders , Fishermen , Farmers , some still clinging onto those proffesions : JUST : But Shaldon is largley a Retirement Villiage now , Folk from Up Country and City, expensive Homes , owning a Dog as a Pet is almost mandatory these days ; There are maily two beach areas on it forshore ; A Sandy safe beach for Ho;lidaying , swimming , resting , Dogs restricted access , mainly kept on Leads ; then a Boaty forshore , dinghs moored up , small Craft moored up , with Dogs allowed all year round .

The Ferry still make trips back n forth all year round , except in bad / advwese weather conditions , when its laid up ;

The Boatouse was sold off (auctioned off) a few years ago now, its walls are crumbling The Local Shaldon Sailing Club are still there , occuping a side of this Building , its quite an active Club sailing most weekends in Season , usually taking Courses out into the Estuary , rather that going Up River amoung the Many Moored Craft and of course , that Bridge (restricting)
But Shaldo remainds a Touresty Village , good Cafes and Restaurants , with Accomodation .

The Boat Chandlery closed up a few years back now , owners moved off , its now an Eatery

There was virtually no boatbuilding of leisure craft because no materials (or much demand) until after about 1950.

Yes so so true ; Recall that the Government aided by Main Top Newspaper Publishers , plus the Duke , worked and organised events and Home Boat Building , in Plywood , started encouraging boating , Papers like the Daily Mirror , who had the 'Mirror' yacht plus the 'Mirror Dinghy' plans published various other Papers had Percy Blanford designing self build boats and dinghys . Yes mateials were in short supply then . Ferro Cemment was tried as a Material ;
