More Windermere news re - limit

I think the punishment is over the top for breaking a 'regulation'. It's not as if he was speeding in front of a school and putting lives at risk.

The "towing another man" i presume means towing a water skier. He claims to be not guilty but would a skier stay up at less than 10mph?

Let's not fool ourselves. These 'speeders' were knowingly flouting the new law on purpose to provoke a reaction from the wardens.
That's what they got.
Now they are going to appeal against the judgement.

None of this is relevant to the average use of the lake by the everyday boater.

It's grandstanding to make a point which it looks as though will not be noticed as the LDNPA are well down the road of their next disaster - the bid for World Heritage Status.

You could Kneeboard at 10mph or wakeboard at about 15mph. All possible on the lake as I used to do it before the ban.

I know that this guy did it to make a point but that fine is just plain stupid! This legal system and punishments do not fit the crimes, IMHO.

Now lets all sing 'Tragedy'....

driving a powerboat towing another man at about 20mph.

About 20mph? Doesn't it have to be exact. Did they actually measure his speed? What would happen if a traffic cop booked you because he thought you were doing about 80. Would that stand up in court?

Exactly, why didn't he just say that according to his gps he was doing 9mph and put the burden of proof of speed onto them?

Thats pretty much what I said on ONE of the occasions I got pulled. Got told to be a good boy in future.
Which of course I have...........NOT.

Something Strange inWindermere

Nick Fieldhouse who was fined for speeding on the lake owns the local 4X4 adventure company Kankku .
If you've visited Booths Supermarket you'll have seen his orange Range Rover buggy suspended from a crane above his offices.

Someone cut the strop and the vehicle fell on his buildings during the night. £300 damage to buggy, £3000 damage to roof.

It looks like some-body has got it in for him. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Something Strange inWindermere

Yeah, and I bet the Parks authority/Police will not be persueing the perpetrator with the same vigor that they went after Mr Fieldhouse for a very minor breach of a by-law!

Ah - what a wonderful country we live in.

Re: Something Strange inWindermere

Didnt know it was him. Yep we do occasionally call at Booths for essential supplys. Cigars, scotch, minstrels and the like.
Inccidentally its a nice walk round the back of your gaff the path that brings you out opposite Police station is rather pleasant apart from the litter around the bench overlooking the waterfall that is.

Re: Something Strange inWindermere

Then don't drop it!

Also go along the path between the grey gate posts. The sign that says 'Private Road' is strictly correct, but it is a public right of way. Nice glimpses of the lake. Some of the most desirable properties around. It brings you out on Birthwaite Road and you'll possibly see Roe deer along the way.

Re: Something Strange inWindermere

I think I am right in saying that he also owns Jetties and Moorings and is doing all the work at Aquatics?

Re: Something Strange inWindermere

Thanks we will have a walk there on Sunday morning.
Ian
PS
Had a nice walk last week over on the ferry (pedestrian passenger 40p) walked down the lake a bit then through some woods and stuff and up to a pub in Sawrey supposedly for lunch but they had shut the kitchen 10 mins earlier so we had a packet of crisps instead. Landlord was a miserable git by the way.
