Hi again

Following advice from this forum (here) I phoned up Keyparts and enquired about the 'O' rings. Then had to sit down with a cup of sweet tea, best part of £120 for the 6 O rings. "You can only buy them in a kit" the man said. Good value for money £20ish per O ring!

OK, rant over. Anybody know if you can buy them seperatly?

Thanks

David

Hi Bilgediver
Yes it has o rings for cylinder liner, but I'm not removing the liners. I rekon VP aren't interested in selling a few orings because there wouldn't be enough proffit in it for them, so they stick them all together in a kit. Or is that just me being cynical?

These are probably standard O rings

[/ QUOTE ] I dont think they are plain O rings. I think they are specially shaped seals, look at the parts diagram and you will see what I mean #36 and #37.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes, they look like shaped seals, but the parts list describes them as O-rings and - interestingly - doesn't give a part number for them.

[/ QUOTE ] Thats because they are in the kit #35 together with the big O ring, #38, that seals the protruding part of the liner into the crankcase. The part number of the kit is there!

Thought it might have......Well while you are pondering have a look at the bores of your liners and see if there is any sign of a mark on the bore in the same positions as the drain cock....What often happens is that some sort of electrolytic action takes place and a neat wee hole appears through to the water space.......I usually recomend that if posssible the liner is turned....this would need O rings LOL...

There was an articicle in PBO a year or so ago about the overhaul of one of these engines with a picture of a perfect hole in the liner.....The writer ignored the hole and did not mention it....Mind you he didn t mention the water flooding into the crankcase after so maybe he fitted a new liner without saying.

[/ QUOTE ] Very close on the water side to the brass drain cock, that's what causes the corrosion.

[pedant mode] when corrosion results from dissimilar metals we usually call it galvanic corrosion reserving the term electrolytic for situations where it is cased by an externally applied emf. [/pedant mode] /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
