More stuff about Portuguese Residency

Might be other advantages, heard a few long term boatyard residents got fined the other day for not registering. (in a place beginning with O)

Would a day trip to Ayamonte reset the 90 days?

Most of those rules seem to be per calendar year, of course may change especially if no deal.

Interesting, with our temporary residence papers, we can now import a car without the horrendous tax, also health service is available to us.

Not quite so simple though for the car. We went to customs with a yard dweller a couple of weeks ago. You have to show that you have genuinely immigrated by showing documentation that you have cancelled registration in last country of residence and produce utility bill to show you were resident there.

Yes they certainly like using utility bills to establish that you live somewhere. We have a certificate from our local Junta which tells all we are resident here, took a bit of getting because you need to be vouched for by two local voters, the owner of a bar we frequent obliged as did our land lady.

GHA...tell me more about the boatyard fines...Im an interested party with lots of friends in there....

Slightly vague bar story (Olhao so of course ;) )

Fines were for staying for years without registering like you're supposed to after 3 months. No mention of getting kicked out, just coughing up.

I'll ask around for more details.

Another rumour doing the rounds is that the police are fining people for not changing driving licenses. I'll believe it when I actually meet someone it has happened to.

The guy trying to import his car without duty already has his 5 year residence, seems crazy that he has to prove where he lived previously and that he has cancelled residence there.

Maybe the fines relate to the Culatra Pool dwellers who were forcibly removed by PM after refusing to leave. One German guy was jailed overnight and fined for letting off a flare and others (at least one in Olhao boatyard and one here on catamaran next to me in Bruce's) were fined around €1,500.

Another very vague report was of officials in the boatyard banging on hulls wanting to see 'documents'.

It resets the boat BUT the exisiting Schengen rules say 90 days max CUMULATIVE in 180 days, so Ive been told.

Has anyone on here actually been fined or been present when a fine was levied on another individual in recent times?
Lots of rumours but very few facts.

Do you have to register the boat in Portugal if you are resident?? That would be weird...
