By popular request, here are two more photographs of my RM880 in build. These were taken today, just over two weeks after my previous set.

DSCN3590.JPG

The deck is now on and the hull has been sprayed with the final colour. I imagine the colour will look different in daylight, but it is essentially a dark blue. For colour freaks it is RAL 5011 Steel Blue. As I mentioned last time, the deck is glued, screwed and glassed on. They obviously do a great job of fairing as there is no way of telling where the glass lamination is under the paint work. The deck fittings are starting to be put on. In the foreground, on the trestle, is the extended bow fitting which holds the anchor away from the hull, provides a little platform for bows to mooring and also acts as the bowsprit for the assymmetric spinnaker.

The second image is on deck. Not so much to say here other than the fact that they have marked out my instruments correctly on the port side ;-) I'm going for ST 60 Speed/Depth + ST 60 Wind with the compass between them. I'm hoping to have a chart plotter on the starboard side. Also nice to see that the decks are well protected from work boots!

In case you have not seen the previous photos, they can be found in this thread:
1st Set of RM Build Photos

I do love this seeing your boat in build. Considering the modest cost of the RM, this is excellent service!!!

I've got to say that, despite not being able to afford to buy or run such a craft, this is a really interesting couple of posts. Thanks. I look forward to seeing you out and about on the Solent in due course. Have you thought of a name yet?

Ahh, the name....a source of much debate. We had thought of continuing a lineage which would have made it "Hana II".

However we've now settled on "Hawana", which means "our wind" in Arabic.

I imagine I will be out in the Solent every weekend when I first get it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You will make sure they plug that hole in the topsides, won't you?

And then loose the ability to rinse the dishes in seawater without having to go outside? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you happen to know the word for 'my wind' instead, my wife thinks that would be a good name for my boat.

If you have not yet bought the ST60 instruments I see that the new ST70s (which fit the same cutouts) are just appearing and might offer longer service life before spares and repairs become a thing of the past.

Thanks, interesting. I just Googled "raymarine st70" and couldn't come up with anything. Can you point me to an URL?

I suspect I'm too late anyway as they are a factory install and from the looks of it about to go in, but since the installed base of ST60s must be huge I'm not so worried about lack of parts etc.

I too googled st70 and found nothing - they look good with colour display.. they are advertised in the latest pbo that went through the letterbox today on the back cover.

The ST70's are shown in the new PBO which arrived today - they are coming out for the Boat Show .... at over £500 each.

I am steadily developing the impression that Raymarine is abandoning the marketplace for under 35ft yachts.

The inboard cockpit pillars are genoa winch mounts I assume? If so my first thought was strange but effective, because with a performance craft hard on the wind the loaded genoa winch can often seem a long way downhill.

Spot on. This makes the boat very easy to sail singlehanded as you can still steer with one hand and grind with the other. I also think it is safer in a small boat as you don't need to put a foot out of the cockpit to gain proper leverage.

I am actually having a removable cutter stay factory fitted, so that I can fly a heavy staysail in stronger winds. The turning blocks will be double blocks, which means I can also trim the staysail from the same winches.

There will be another two winches on top of the coachroof for all the halyards etc.
