Last week I posted that the top speed on my Botnia Targa 27 (Volvo 230hp) was down from 30 kts new in January to 25 now, presumably due to fouling.

Took it up to Torbay last night and couldn't do better than 19kts (verified on plotter) on any point of the compass in negligible sea.

Engine still sounds fine with normal temp and oil press.

Is it really possible to lose ten knots in seven months due to weed growth?

Any further advice on optimal antifouling for Dart appreciated.

Yes it is ,we managed to scrape our bottom with a very stiff broom and you could hear the barnicles as they came off this was done in about five feet of water with tide going out ,a lift out would have been easier but we saved £100 or so and it did the job because we had dropped from 27 to about 21 knts (reengined project 31) a
nd now back up to 27 knts

Yep, I am off the pace by about 7 knots, went in the water in April, its all due to weed.

I am gonna spend it on wine, women and song, and blow the rest.........

I used to have a fairline sprint (21ft) which had problems getting on the plane if there was too much weight towards the stern, someone used to have to go into the forward cabin until she was up to speed! Anyway at Easter she would do 30 knt plus, by august she was down to 23 knts and getting on the plane was even harder.

The next season I assumed the same thing and had the hull washed down mid season, helped a bit but the problem was tracked down to a crack in the cyliner block and hence the compression was just not right.

It may be worth checking (or getting someone to check) your compression is OK??
