Why would you want to feed the NASA 3 with data from your GPS ?

I'm wanting to show targets on both CP180 and also on laptop via CPN, i have a db9 splitter with one supplying the CP180 and the other supplying laptop.

Can i presume that if i feed the AIS engine with GPS data this will also feed the laptop, or do i need a separate GPS feed for laptop ?

Someone who has this configuration will be able to answer you more precisely but most modern AIS receivers incorporate a GPS chip and feed both AIS and GPS sentences to the display device. A GPS signal input to your receiver is probably combined to the AIS output to emulate that. That way a plotter program can display your ship's position and calculate CPA and TCPA from AIS targets with just the one data input cable.

Yes, the Nasa AIS3 should accept GPS data at 4800baud and output it, together with AIS data, at 38400baud.
